I have received some books this week and can comment on them now. I never ever buy a book without reading a review first, neither buy a book for more than £6 pounds, I learned a lesson! I will start with the book that really drove me crazy, THE COMPLETE BOOK OF MACHINE QUILTING, ROBBIE & TONY FANNING, it covers more than what I expected, not just machine quilting but all the whys and becauses. The book has over 300 pages of light reading and very interesting information, not to mention all, my favorite is: ways to relax on chapter 12. I would buy this book even if I were hand quilting. I bought from Amazon for £1.50, yes one pound, not ten pounds. It was an ex library book, now it has a proper home!! I am in love!
Next, THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF QUILTING AND PATCHWORK TECHNIQUES, KATHARINE GUERRIER, I decided to buy this book for the price and the many blocks and techniques it covers. I wasn't impressed but it does the job, it is very concise in every explanation, it is a book that you open to find out how to do it without wasting too much time. It has some eye candies quilts in the last chapter as well.
ART QUILT WORKBOOK, JANEDAVILA & ELIN WATERSTON, superb book! If I follow, and I will do, every chapter, by the end of the book I will have 6 quilts bound and ready to display at shows or galleries. This book also shares a good source of websites, artists and books.
BORDERS, BINDINGS & EDGES THE ART OF FINISHING YOUR QUILT, SALLY COLLINS. I like Sally Collins, have bought her dvd (precision piecing) before. However, this book is far too advanced for me, I don't think I will apply a scalloped edge yet, but it is a book that will help as I gain experience. Her tips are very good and are all over the book. My favourite is how to correct waves on a wall hanging.
COLORING WITH THREAD, ANN FAHL, also a dvd with the same name. The author is very sweet, I enjoy watching her again and again. The book is very good with exercises and you learn about thread, tension, machine and tools to help with free motion!
QULTING ESSENCIALS AN INSTRUCTIONAL GUIDING TO QUILTING, my husband is addicted to quilting too, everytime he goes shopping he buys me something to do with quilting! This book he found at TKMAX! It is good though, it has lovely projects for babies, easy to understand and even I am going to make some of the projects to a friend who is pregnant.
CONTINUOUS LINE QUILTING DESIGNS, PAT CODY, I bought from amazon for less than a pound, it has patterns for quilting all in one continuous line, no stopping, nice for borders, and it is fun to read all names for each quilting design and its descriptions that guide you to where to quilt.
KIDS START QUILTING, ALEX ANDERSON, I think a child can make a quilt all by herself with this book. The language is really simple and has tips for the adults too.
SEW PRETTY HOMESTYLE, TONNE FINNANGER, it is a sweet book, lovely projects for each room of your house, even slippers!
ELEGANT MACHNE QUILTING, JOANIE ZEIER POOLE, it is an OK book, lovely patterns and great inspirations, but I think this book is for experienced quilters, I had too much guess work! Maybe it is me!
THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD FOR KIDS,FROM SLAVERY TO FREEDOM, MARY KAY CARSON, I bought because I think it is interesting to know about the history of quilting. This book is for 9 years-old +, has 21 activities for the children and has real photographs as well as drawings.
Some more books are on the way, watch this space!
